Aquarium Hood Project
The completed aquarium hood, with four coats of exterior polyurethane.
The drawing used to make it.
The version of Design Intuition used cannot rotate objects; and as such, this drawing does not fully represent the piece constructed.
The end caps were machined and hand-shaped from two-inch-thick solid oak.
To tolerate the extra punishment anticipated from a saltwater aquarium, five 3" machine screws were used to attach each end cap to the horizontal beams.
The door hinges from an upper front beam which is slightly slanted, to provide a surface against which to lean when open. This eliminates the hardware to hold the door open, one less thing to corrode in the briny aquarium air.
