Wall-Mounted Organizer

Wall-Mounted Organizer

A simple project which can be done in a weekend.

The completed organizer, with one coat of exterior polyurethane, mounted on an office wall.

The drawings used to make it -- front view.

Each piece was machined from 3/4 inch plywood. Prior to cutting each piece to size, a 1/4 inch thick strip of solid oak was glued to one edge. Each groove was cut by passing the plywood twice through the tablesaw, moving the fence 1/64 of an inch between passes.

Assembling a piece where a center divider is surrounded on three sides is challenging. Several things help: a) cutting the dados the exact width that the piece intended to fit in the dado, b) dry-assembling to verify that all pieces are cut to the proper size, c) assembling the pieces in the right order. The best order seems to be 1) glue center divider first into the back, 2) then into the top, 3) attach one side piece, 4) attach the other side piece, 5) attach the bottom. The picture shown here is after step 3.
