| How do I know whether my graphics card is good enough? |
Design Intuition is a state-of-the-art CAD program, and uses many advanced features of the current generation of graphics cards. As such, we recommend that you assure yourself that your graphics card drivers are all up to date. Nearly all problems we've heard of have been corrected by simply updating your driver. If Design Intuition either doesn't (a) do anything or (b) has some glitch or problem displaying (eg, a black region in the design window), it's probably because of your graphics (aka video) card. Your graphics card must be capable of OpenGL version 1.3. First rule of thumb: onboard video (which isn't good enough for anything remotely 3D) won't do it. More specifically, laptops more than 3 years old typically only had onboard video. The documentation for your particular video card may mention which version of OpenGL is supported. Many older video cards are not capable of OpenGL 1.3. Most newer video cards from major manufacturers (ATI, nVidia, Matrox) will do nicely. You can also determine the capabilities of your particular video card by downloading and running the OpenGL Extensions Viewer from RealTechVR. This free utility will report on the OpenGL extensions supported by your video card. |
| How do I update my graphics card? |
To update the driver for your video card, visit the website of your video card manufacturer, and follow their instructions. CAVEAT: Some video cards will not work correctly with OpenGL specifically on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. This is usually a result of the display adapter driver not fully supporting the OpenGL standard. One such problem with the nVidia TNT2 video card is recognized by Microsoft as a Windows 2000 issue. | Does Design Intuition run on Windows ME? |
We don't officially support it and haven't tested it. We've checked the Windows website and the .NET Framework is supported on Windows ME, so in theory, Design Intuition could work on Windows ME. However, we believe the Windows ME core was the last Windows version that doesn't use NT technology, hence we're only supporting Windows 2000 and Windows XP (Pro and Home). |
